Eligibility

The Charlton School accepts young women from age thirteen to eighteen who have achieved at least the 8th grade level in their education.  Referrals are accepted through various County Departments of Social Services, Probation Departments and public school districts.

Referral and Admission

Referrals to Charlton are made through County Department of Social Services which submits appropriate referral material directly to The Charlton School and also from public school districts' Committee on Special Education.  After reviewing the material a determination is made whether a pre-placement visit by the student and her family is appropriate.  If so, the girl and her family are asked to participate in a visit to our campus and an interview.  After the visit, a decision is made by Charlton, the referring agency, the girl and her family, as to admission.

    Referral materials:

  •  A family/social history
  •  Psychological and/or psychiatric reports
  •  Educational records, background and current status
  •  Medical history
  •  Any special circumstances relevant to placement and treatment

Also valuable with the materials are treatment planning recommendations by the referring agency.
