Directions to The Charlton School from the South & West (Kingston, New York City, Syracuse)

  • Northway (I87) North to Exit 9. Get off Exit 9 (Clifton Park). Turn left onto Route 146.
  • Take Route 146 West for about 6.5 miles.
  • Landmarks you will pass: McDonald’s on your right, Shenendehowa School District on your left, Stewart’s on your left.
  • Turn right onto Blue Barns Road/CR 110 (This should be your 7th traffic light once getting off I87.).
  • Take Blue Barns Road/CR 110 for about 3.5 miles.
  • At the traffic light you will turn left onto Lake Hill Road (This will be your 2nd traffic light once turning off of Route 146.).
  • Stay on Lake Hill Road for approximately 1.2 miles (You will cross Route 50, Mama’s Ice Cream is on the left. You will then go through a 4-way stop.).
  • Just past the 4-way stop, Lake Hill Road bears to the right.
  • Take a right, staying on Lake Hill Road.
  • The campus is about 1 mile on your right. You will go over a small bridge, pass a dog kennel on your right and then come to the campus on your right.
  • Just before the main driveway with the white pillars, you will see the Administration Building on your right marked 322 Lakehill Road.
  • From Exit 9 to Charlton is about 20 minutes.

Directions to The Charlton School from the North (Plattsburgh, Lake George, Saratoga Springs)

  • Northway (I87) South to Exit 12. Get off Exit 12. Turn right onto Route 67.
  • Landmarks you will pass: State Farm Insurance on your left. Stewart’s on your left. Curtis Lumber on your left.
  • After you pass Curtis Lumber you will go under an underpass and then take your next left onto Brookline Road.
  • At the traffic light you will turn left onto Route 50 – South (gas stations on the corners).
  • Stay on Route 50 for approximately 5 miles (to your second traffic light) to the intersection of Route 50 and Lakehill Road. The Burnt Hills Fire Department will be on your right.
  • Take a right at this light onto Lakehill Road.
  • Continue on Lakehill Road for approximately 1 mile at which point you will come to a fork in the road. Turn right, staying on Lakehill Road.
  • The campus is about 1 mile on your right. You will go over a small bridge, pass a dog kennel on your right and then come to the campus on your right.

Schedule a Visit

Parent and guardian involvement is encouraged early by touring Charlton as part of the admission process. Visiting The Charlton School also allows parents and guardians the opportunity to get to know the Charlton program and staff more personally. During your visit, our multidisciplinary treatment team will also conduct a formal student-family interview before a student is accepted. Visiting Tips

  • The interview and campus tour are typically 90 minutes in duration.
  • Having documents / evaluations that provide a good sense of the student’s psychosocial history is helpful.
  • Parents and students should dress accordingly, based on the weather, as we will be walking outside around campus as part of the tour.
