Therapy

The faculty at the Charlton School believes that when a student enters placement it is a concern for the entire family. With this perspective, the entire family is expected to be involved in the change process while the student is residing at The Charlton School.

• Family Therapy usually takes the form of bi-monthly family sessions.

• In the event the family cannot participate in on campus family sessions, arrangements are made to have family sessions occur via Skype videoconference or telephone.

• The family is continually involved with their child in the program and encouraged in their own process of resolving past issues and strengthening family relationships.

• Each student is involved in weekly therapy sessions with her assigned therapist. In addition to these sessions, students participate in regular meetings with our school Psychologist and Psychiatrist.

Our holistic approach in treating students as individuals with different needs is of paramount importance.  Positive Behavior Support plans, medication adjustments and other modifications to a student's treatment plan are addressed during various weekly clinical meetings including;

• Clinical Team Meetings
• Child Study Team Meetings
• Staff Meetings
• Supervision

Group therapy occurs weekly as well. The themes within these groups consist of self-exploration, impact of trauma on development, self-regulation, emotional management and culture/diversity.

The following is a list of ongoing specific groups:
• Studio Art Therapy (twice a week, 1hour)
• Equine Therapy (once a week, 1 hour)
• Cultural Diversity (once a week, 1 hour)
• Cottage Group (twice a week, 1 hour)
• Drug & Alcohol (once a week, 1hour)
